One of the sheds here has both manhole covers broken .
When they are closed they are fine and safe but its the hinges that are shagged and if you're not careful the steel individual covers can slip down into the tank .

Have any of ye repaired them successfuly or by rights should I be getting a new slat with agitation point altogether ?

You can get replacement covers from whomever supplied the slats first day as their covers would be the same length as the ones you need.

I got some last year to replace two that fell into the tank. The hinge points were rusted/broken so they are always at risk of falling into the tank and I don't think they can be repaired as there is very little exposed metal to try welding something up to fit onto the slat.

I am thinking of welding some chain onto the bars and attached to the slat so if they fall down, they can be pulled back up again.

Eventually a replacement agitator slab will have to be bought I think.

I was thinking about bolting a hinge onto each of the lids and using concrete screws or raw bolts to hold them onto the slat ?

The chains would be good to stop them falling in alright .
