Well maybe god will help her to sell the car.

She is an utter moron, there isn't much else worth saying.

How did it take two people to write that article?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 81,220 ✭✭✭✭biko

    Meh, nothing major.
Cars parked along Long Walk every night will get just as covered in sea water in time.

    It's actually for sale (edit, I didn't read properly - it's a prank)

I'd say the car is a rustball now, salt water is very corrosive.

I couldn't resist, opened the article and read:

“I love the beach because it makes me calm, I feel close to God there.

I know that he will look after me, I don’t need to fear".

    Sweet Christ (pardon the pun).

The car is the 1.6 litre petrol version, I always thought that if the level of the water was above the vents on the front of the engine which it was that the air intake of the engine would have taken in water and hydrolocked. How did this not happen in this case when the waves were breaking fully over the engine bay?

    Divine intervention or pot luck.

    As the title says

    MiniGirl = Minibrain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,520 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

The title doesn't say that though.:D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,686 ✭✭✭✭mickdw

If this was a case of getting the car out of an area where it would be fully submerged 5 mins later, i guess there is a good argument for doing it.
If on the other hand she drive through that for no good reason, well crazy stuff.

The one thing that saved her was that she kept a bit of a bow wave going which likely just kept the serious backwash of water periodically away from the intake and allowed some air. If the intake took only water, it would have locked up pretty much instantly. She likely has alot of water in intake but if it wasnt continuous, the design of intake, filter housing etc must have allowed the the water to drop away and feed sufficient air to engine.
I guess it would be foolish to think she might have got the intake cleaned out and new filter fitted?
Dont know where ecu is fitted in mini but id be checking scuttle drains etc if they exist in mini.

    Just power wash it afterwards.

Nearly every car gets covered in rock salt around winter.

All that Jesus blarney though ... wtf :)

"You just need to respect the water and it will respect you"... She just got lucky her mini didn't conk out. It has nothing to do with God or respect. It happened as it happened. Water wasn't high enough for the engine to suck it in on this occasion.

I think people are being overly harsh on her. She wanted to save her car (lets face it, they cost a lot to get and keep on the road) from the floods and that's what she was doing it seems. She was probably in panic mode and 1st instinct was to get away from the danger as quickly as possible.

Water not that high, she kept it lit, fair play to her!
I wonder would comments be different if ‘‘twas a bloke!

Doubt when she comes to sell it anyone will remember this episode. much ado about nothing. the materials in cars now are far less prone to corrosion than they used to be. **** the bit harm it will do it.

One douse of salt water won't make a modern car like that a "rustball". If that was the case my car would be dead two years ago. A quick rinse of fresh water or a drive through heavy rain will wash it all away.

As long as the salt water didnt get near wiring connectors, modules etc.

The video shows here out of the car park right? She's then on the road... on the side closest the sea just ploughing on. Nutjob. And even more of an idiot for her comments about respecting the sea and it will respect you back. I'm sure the coast guard loved that comment!

Just saw a still of it today. Saw the video earlier in the week. Im not familiar with the area and it wasnt ckear from the still shot if the surface further from the waters edge was road or not. I agree.... if it wasnt a case of saving the car, it was nuts and if she could have taken a path further from the water, it was even more nuts.

Any wonder so many young Donegal drivers are killed, they don't give a ****.

I know that area fairly well. If it’s where I think it is she is driving down the prom away from the “town” part of Salthill which is away from the sea and up hill

Just where the wave hit the car, she could have taken a right to bring her up a hill (Dalysfort Rd) - you'll see a break in the island in the middle of the road, but she continued on.

This was not 'escaping', she kept driving parallel with the prom, where the water was battering up to the road (along with stones etc.).

I love my bit of adrenaline, but this is just plain stupid imho. Would have been some craic if the car hydrolocked and she was caught out..... maybe God would have lifted her to safety :pac:

I can guarantee that car won't be running well in a week or two, salt water does weird things to electrical circuits with current running through them, connectors may be sealed but there are plenty of unsealed electrical items as well that don't like salt water.

And she'll set up a gofundme page and gob****es will help her out

Has anyone actually driven through floods like that?
I have driven in Salthill (where she is) during floods. Mind, the waves weren't coming in like that, but the car was up to the sills in water.
Just keep making slow steady progress and don't stop is the key.

I have driven plenty of floods but with care and fresh water only.
Some intakes are very low and its easy to hydro lock the engine, others are much better. Subaru Impreza's have a drain tank before the intake to stop this, Ford transits are very poorly designed with regard to water intake.
