Broken dropout on frame for on Giant Defy 0 2015

I was wondering if anyone could offer some advice on the following.
I hadnt washed my bike all Christmas, so I was taking it for a spin out to the back garden to do so. I wasnt even gone 3 feet on it when I noticed that the bike was sluggish and then felt a pop. I looked down and saw that broken off the derailleur hanger for the rear derailleur on the frame.

Im not sure how it happened as I wasnt on the bike all Christmas. My guess is that my last contact with the bike was to put the wheels back onto it after taking it in the car. I may not have spun the chain to make sure that it was on correctly. It looks like it was caught between the rear cassette and the spokes, and as a result, tore the derailleur and thus the hanger off the frame.

Would anyone have any pointers on how I could get it repaired, if possible?

I would imagine that if it were steel it could be welded If such a mechanic could be found, but I have my doubts that same could be done to the the aluminum alloy on the 2015 Defy 0 that I have. What do ye think?

Not worth repairing, derailleur hangers are replaceable and essentially designed to break before the frame for just this kind of issue! You could either try online (www.derailleurhanger.com), or just drop into your local LBS. If you see the two small allen head screws above the skewer in the attached pic, undoing those will release the top of the hanger, and a new one can be put in place, and the derailleur affixed to that. Hangers are specific to frames though, so make sure if you source your own replacement it is the right type!

On closer inspection, ive just realised that its only the derailleur hanger that I have broken: the frame is thankfully fine!
So a potentially very expensive frame repair/replacement is actually a much cheaper part replacement. I am delighted. No need to panic after-all.

The part number is 1159-re171a-003 for the Giant Defy 0 2015, in case anyone else needs it in future. They are about 12e in the Giant store in Dublin.
