Underground Cycle Paths

I was thinking the other day while I was battling against blustery winds on commute to work, wouldn't it be wonderful if there was cycle tunnels on main arteries leading into the cities. Particularly in Dublin, if you had a network of underground cycle paths running under the main motorways, with entrances at some main points. It would create more space and would be safer; less hassle than having to navigate the appaling planning of some cycle tracks on ground.

    I personally think it's a wonderful idea.

I think a train underground is a great idea but this is Ireland so everything stays up top, away from the mole people.

Was thinking the same. The stolen bike thread would be trending 1st on boards

We’d be forced to ride recumbent bikes as it be cheaper to build lower roof tunnels.

Did they not try this underground stuff in Ballymun in the 60's?

I agree - like they did in Madrid with the Río Park. Imagine the whole M50 was like this.

With only a slight cost overrun. :D

A less expensive solution would be to put assorted road furniture in the middle of the cycle lanes to break up the headwinds.

    Oh, wait....

You raise a valid point. My solution is to have lasers who shoot at undesirables in the tunnels.

They actually did propose something like this in London a few years aho called the 'Underline' but it never got off the ground..or should I say ..underground !
