At the minute I'm looking at holidays and just wondering is this route in operation this year
No flights on the website yet and hard to find anything on Ryanair website

You should ring the airport directly and ask to be put through to the Ryanair desk. They should probably have a very good idea as to what’s happening.

Routes cut, the airports been telling people on FB not to worry as its coming back in 2019 which is a downright stupid thing to do, they really don't have any say and I'd guarantee it won't be back next year.

Rule of Thumb with Ryanair, if your Summer route isn't bookable by January, it's been cut (rare exceptions for new routes which didn't run the previous year)

RY has been scaling back flights from UK and IE to Gro for some time

Looked at tui prices and they are very high .
Was looking at going via UK . would 1hr 30 mins be enough between flights or would i have to go through security etc again ?

Unless it's booked as one booking with an airline as a connection you most certainly would have to go through security. I would highly advise against flying via the UK with only an hour and a half stop.

You can fly to Girona from Dublin or alternatively Reus from Shannon. Would these suit?

Did you think of going from Belfast? Jet2.com. go to Girona from there. They have flights on a Monday and Friday June- September.
If you’re in Cavan it could be perfect for you.
Belfast airport is a dream to go from. The car park is right beside the terminal building.
    Good luck!
