    Hello.
If a teacher is not employed in teaching presently and wishes to apply for positions starting in Sep 2018, what are the ways she can apply?
We know about educationposts.ie. We also know about the VEC websites for the various districts.
Are we missing anything? What about the educate together places? Or the community schools?
Is there somewhere that these schools advertise? And when does this advertising start?
    Thanks for reading.

Usually April onwards but year 2 CIDs will be the first few. That's the websites and some still use newspapers but Ed posts are the most comprehensive.

When you get a post with your own hours (not maternity, sick leave, career break), you get a RPT contract. After year one, you have to apply and interview for your position. If successful at second year interview, you work the next year and when you start the third year in the same school, you get a CID which is like permanency.

Year two interviews are advertised at the end of the school year and interviews usually take place in June and most of the time, the person who got the job the year previous will probably (not always) get the job which means an outsider would probably not be successful.

Career break is eligible for CID.

Assuming person takes at least two years and one day career break.

Yes. Same as all other eligible hours. It could also be two different people's career breaks.

No it's not the same as RPT because essentially it's like a sick leave because the person on career break may come back after one year and the person covering has an RPT contract but has no rights to that job. Even if a person took two years career break - the appointed person has no rights as they don't have a CID and will either have to find alternative employment if school can't offer them hours in their own right. It would be very unlikely that there would be two people from the same department on career break unless you had a very big school.

I consider it the same in the context of the hours needing to be available for two years plus one day - the same criteria apply in that respect. And Year 2 interviews as discussed apply to career break hours the same as RPT.

More than one person on career break with same subject happens sometimes in my school - a medium sized school - in big departments like English or Maths where there's 9/10 teachers. I meant one after the other rather than both at the same time. It also only has to be within the same ETB, not just the same school.
