Pumping breaks in civil service?

Has anyone any experience of requesting extra breaks to pump or shorter working day in accordance with circular 31/2006?

Is it possible to take the shorter working day instead of taking the breaks even if pump facilities are available? I depend on public transport and due to this it would be much more beneficial to just reduce my overall working time as opposed to taking multiple breaks to pump.

I wondered the same! A quick google for circular 31/2006 reveals it refers to maternity leave so I am assuming pumping breaks refers to needing a break in order to pump for breastmilk.

My only guess would be it's something to do with the Cycle to Work scheme :D

An employee who is breastfeeding is entitled, if preferred, to the option outlined above and without loss of pay, to have her working hours reduced by 1 hour each day.

Pretty straight forward, it's about what you prefer, not what the job prefers.

If you want, you can take an hour off each day. You have to notify your employer in writing about this.

All covered on pages 6 & 7 of Implementation of the Regulations of the Maternity Protection (Amendment) Act 2004
