Have you considered a combination of tunnel and shed like this: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=szN4hjohMuY

That would do perfect for me!

But only thing about tunnels is.....I'm worried about maintenance of the roof etc

As between work etc it would be late some days before I get to check and maybe weekend before I'd get around to repairs....would it be gone in ****e by then, if weather was windy??

    >>could be exposed enough where I am

And there wouldnt be any actual knowledge on how to repair (or even erect) tunnels where I am,as there isn't any that I know of around the place, but deffo worth a look into!

My sheep tunnel, built by CWP Tunnels, You've probably seen it posted here before

    https://www.farmersjournal.ie/polytunnel-is-a-low-cost-speedy-option-on-sheep-farm-163974

The first one I went to look at was built on grass, so you can make it as dear or as cheap as you like, for ease of cleaning out I put it up on 2ft walls and concrete floor, It's 120ft by 36ft and built on 80 cu mtrs of concrete. The tunnel was about 14000 plus vat, I forget what the concrete cost.
Sixth season now and has withstood the last two storms.
I think CWP travel the whole country, at least they did when they were repairing tunnels after Ophelia.
    Exposed site too

That's a set up,I could only dream of

Was planning 48 × 36 (either shed or going to realistically look at tunnel now)....I do like the 2 foot wall idea for ease of cleaning (deos tractor fit under easily?),and I do believe that natural light is more important than appreciated by most

Either that or I was looking at 63 (4 span) by 22 foot leanto....either of which will require removal of old garden ditchs and hopefully remove at least 1 derelict building

What kind of warranty/gaurentee do they give (if any?)...

And prob should be asking them this. ..but is there anything can be done to extend the lifespan such as painting with oil etc in summer...as I could get almost unlimited supply of clean, but used backend oil through work

Whatever you're building I think it needs to be 30ft wide at least, pens need to be 8ft deep at least and the feeding passage at least 12ft so that's 28ft, I've converted sheds with smaller pens and feeing passages but if you're going new build, do it right.
Don't think any thing can be done to extend the life of the polythene, they told me it'd cost €1500 to recover that after ten years......I can live with that, there isn't a mark on it yet though. There is the option of white Polythene which doesn't wear as quick because it doesn't expand and contract like the green stuff, but I thought the green fitted in better with the environment.
That's a high spec tunnel, all aluminium and galvanised, so the frame should be everlasting, they do cheaper specs as well, the door in mine is 12ft high so the theres plenty of head room, it must be 17ft at the top, the two foot walls help the height.
There is some rubbishy tunnels out there so be careful
Just edited to say we insure the tunnel but FBD will only cover the polythene to 7 years old,
If wind does take it the polythene is so well secured that the frame would be well twisted too

There's his CWP website, you'll see my tunnel there as well as one that was built around the same time on 4ft walls....I think it's too high.
He also has the lower spec sheep tunnels with timber holding the polythene also the white polythene.
looks a good tunnel too and way cheaper than mine/

I'll put up a pic once the roof is on. Waiting until the first lamb is on the way.

We’ve a silage pit with walls up to around 10 feet beside what’s now the converted cow cubicles, so might look into getting a cover on that in the “next phase of expansion” (it’ll be 2035 the way things are going!)

That's a serious shed and 1500 to redo roof after 10 years is low enough to be not considered a problem imo
(Like I have spend a thousand on existing shed repairs this year...and prob same next year to get it painted)

Going to ring that man in a few weeks, for prices/brochure at least

your input is much appreciated (must say the wall at edge is a brilliant but simple idea)

I've decided on a size at least....looking at a 40×40 (two 14ft deep pens and 12ft passage) tunnel or similar sized shed.....hopefully late this year or early next depending on wheter I go travelling again or not!
