I've just bought an Elite Direto direct drive trainer (where you take off the back wheel and attach directly to the turbo), so I'm getting rid of my Tacx Vortex. Obviously I'm hoping that the new turbo is an improvement. However, the Tacx vortex is a great machine if you're looking for a budget smart trainer that works with Zwift and all the other apps that can control resistance. I find it reliable as long as you have it calibrated properly. Power accuracy is not great in Zwift, but I find it to be at least consistent, so you just have to shave about 10-12% off your power readings to get an accurate picture of what you are putting out. If you already have a power meter on your bike, then you could just use that for power. The Vortex simulates gradients up to about 6%, so fine for the steady climbs, but less useful on steep hills. You can get it to go up to about 850-900 watts, so you might find yourself maxing out the unit on big sprint efforts.
Trainer and wheel (2013 Ksyrium SLS -white hub- with Campagnolo chorus 11-25 cassette and old GP4000s II tyre) for €350, or nearest sensible offer. Will also consider selling separately. Pictures to follow when I get home later, but you can find all the info on the trainer including what it looks like here
