Car scrappage question

    Hey,

I'm looking to get my car scrapped and have a few questions. I have a 04 Ford Focus which I stopped driving in June 16. I tried selling it privately but had no luck. I gave it to a local dealer to see if he would have any success, but it's still sitting in his lot after over a year, with zero interest in it (but lots of mould on the seats!). It was a grand car, no bother, but I was trying to keep my bills down and just didn't need it.

Anyways, would I be able to get a few quid for it from a scrap dealer? Are there any pitfalls to avoid when getting it scrapped? What do I do with the ownership cert etc? Anyone you would recommend in Westport/Castlebar area, Co. Mayo for this?

    Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

With scrap prices you might only get €100 for it. Make sure it's an authorised dismantler and they give you a certificate of destruction.

    Good info here...

How much were you looking for it, any car that drives will sell if priced right.

Does it still drive? NCT? Give it a good clean and you might get few hundred

Scrapping you should 100 ish if you can get it to them, if they can collect might be nothing

Can't advise you on it's value but if you sell it to someone who intends to drive it, do NOT hand over the registration cert. as the car will almost certainly end up in the hands of a boy racer who will not bother registering (or insuring) it and you will start getting tickets and fines for toll roads and speeding. In that case you fill out the new owner's name and address and post it to Shannon, the address is on the registration cert.

If you device to scrap it, the procedure is that you take it to an approved 'authorised treatment facility', there is a list of those in Co. Mayo here...

They give you a certificate of destruction and you send that and the registration cert. to Shannon at which point the car will be officially marked as scrapped.

Ah, that's brilliant lads. Thanks a lot. I'm just going to get it scrapped...i've been putting it off for a while, and couldn't be bothered trying to sell it now. It's a 1.6 ford focus, so road tax is high and that put off a few prospective buyers. It also had a really annoying red warning light that kept coming on too...i had it into the garage multiple times and they could never get to the bottom of it! Will be glad to see the back of it :D
