    Hi all,

this seems like the best place to ask this particular question.

I have a few weddings coming up this year, and I'm badly overdue the purchase of a new suit. My previous one is years old and I don't need to wear one for work, so it'll essentially only be worn 3 or 4 times a year.

now, my main issue is that I'm a shortarse at 5'6, and would be a little overweight also, so stuff thats off the rail in shops generally doesn't look great, so I was thinking of investing in getting something made (or properly fitted - I'm not sure of the terminology).

Would anyone have a general idea of what kind of figures I'd be looking at for a 3 piece? and recommendations of places to go (I'm located in cork)

    thanks in advance!

Last time I got a quote for a bespoke suit was around €800.

If that's too steep, you could buy one off the rails in a short at approximately your size, and take it to a tailor to get it fitted for your own measurements. I use someone in Dublin, cant offer any advice on Cork Im afraid.

thanks, I had guesstimated about 600 based on the last time I bought a suit, so it looks like Im not a million miles off the mark.

Time to hit the gym and get a bit, er, better proportioned I think. :pac:

if you mean off the rail in high street stores they are generally only for slim fit types or at least that's what I've found. If you go to a older type mens shop who deal in brands outside of italy/France you'll probably find a better fit.

exactly the issue I'm finding, I have a bit of time to play with yet, the first wedding isn't till may, but I'd like to start looking around sooner rather than later.

Bear in mind a tailor can let out a suit as well as take it in. I was told that trousers for example usually have 2 inches of fabric to be let out - but apparently this is starting to be phased out, even in expensive brands.

I've a similar problem but I find going to a proper menswear shop and upping price a bit to 300 ish I can get a well fitting suit

Con Murphys in Patrick St or Simply Suits in the Kinsale Road by Smyths are worth a look OP

Both have tailors on site for any alterations

Both have very helpful staff and you may grab the tail end of the sales

Have used both for weddings over the years

Might be worth taking a trip to David Young (Francis St) if you are around Galway. Prices for a tailor made suit would start at around €2K.

As someone above mentioned the men’s shop that specialise in suits are great. I’ve awkward sizes too. Got a lovely 3 piece suit for €254 last week. The waistcoat needed to be altered which cost 20 quid. It’s a great price.

Also Mick Murphy's, North Main St.
Slightly off, but recently we got a full set of suits for the men of a wedding, three piece, online under €200 each from the UK.
Sent the measurements. Got them in 10 days. Used a dressmaker for slight alterations. Great fit all round, and some were round.
Don't have the contact at present but will post it here, when I get it. Great service and value.

Would go on the advice above on going to a proper mans shop rather than a high street shop...I bought one in a mans shop last year and got alterations to fit me because like OP I am a short arse and carrying a few pound.
The suit cost €250 and to get a custom fit was an extra €50 and they even altered a shirt for me.. best fitting suit I have ever owned.

I get my suits made in Vietnam by a tailor over there that I first visited in person and took my measurements. I've got 2 overcoats and two suits made with them to date. They are called Aobaba and they're based in Hoi An. Depending on fabric you are looking at E130-280 for a tailored suit plus E50 for delivery. That amount gets me two trousers and a jacket. Payment through PayPal typically. Get your measurements done here if you aren't tipping around Hoi An much! Everything I've got has been spot on and great quality. You can send them photos/screenshots of what you want and they send you back pictures of suggested fabrics they have, agree what you want and it'll be back to you in 2-3 weeks. Just providing you with the option anyway!
