4K TV recommendation and placement over a stove

Hi,
I am looking to purchase a 4k TV for our kitchen/lounge, with a budget of approx. €600. Looking at your website there are several options within this range even without a boardie deal; what can you recommend? I was looking at somewhere between 45 – 55 inch. I am not planning to connect this TV up to an AV system at this point in time due to budgeting constraints.
From a viewing perspective; the ideal site is on a chimney breast over a mantle place which is fitted with a solid fuel stove. Do you see this as an issue? The stove sits proud of the fire place by about 9 inches; the back of which is sitting in the fire place. The flue to the stove goes directly into the Chimney.

One last question:

My main system is a Panasonic TX-P42-GT30B TV connected to a Marantz NR 1604 AV and MA speakers (I bought the amp and speakers from RS five years ago). As the Panasonic is an older TV; would I be better off putting the Panasonic in the kitchen and hooking up the newer TV to my AV system. Would the NR1604 drive it?

Thanking you in advance.

Hi Michael.

I do apologies for the delay, we are currently dealing with a great number number of boards posts, facebook posts, web sales, in store customers and phone calls here at the Belfast so replies are a little slower than usual at the moment.

I would not recommend mounting any TV near a heat source in case it might damage the panel. Many people do do this but I have to let you know that I would not recommend it.

The 42GT30 where a great television and now that plasma no longer is in production it is hard to find an LED that can match the black levels.

You could look Hisense 55" 4K priced at 599.99 euro
http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-203093-400872.aspx

There is also the very popular 55UJ630 also priced at £599.99 Euro
http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202986-400326.aspx

Regarding your current NR1604, I'm not sure what you mean when you say "Would the NR1604 Drive it?"
Do you meant will a new TV be able to connect to it?
The NR1604 is not 4K ready so if you where to connect a 4k source to it, it will not pass it through to the new television.
What 4k sources do you currently have?

Let me know your thoughts.

Any questions please drop me a post.

Hi Kenny,

Thanks for your reply. I am sure you must be swamped with the New Year sales. My apologies, I had thought the post might have been missed.

Thanks for your views on situating a TV over a stove. I will need to reload.

Thanks for the recommendations on TVs. I will take a good look at those.

Youn interpreted my receiver question correctly and unfortunately answered it the way I thought you might. We don't have 4K sources at the moment. I had thought to use a Virgin Set Top Box and use a Chromecast 4K to transmit Netflix etc. However I am definitely open to suggestions.

Have a nice weekend,

Michael

Hey Mfour.

Unfortunately I'm now in the same position as yourself with my receiver as it is non 4K and I purchased one of the LG OLED's several months ago.
So my next upgrade will be an new amp.

For the mean time I have my Chromecast (For 4K) connected to my TV and have optical between the TV and amp to carry the audio. (My amp is so old it does not have ARC).
I've been thinking either Denon or Sony for a new amp.
Both the AVRX2400 and the Sony STRDN1080 have had 5 star reviews in What Hifi and are the most popular in their price point at the moment.

Denon AVR2400 priced at £369.00
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-13044-avrx2400.aspx

Sony STRDN1080 priced at £465.00

Hi Kenny,

The OLED LG sounds great. Unfortunately not in my budget at the moment. Thanks for the info on the 4K sources you are using and considering. Unfortunately once you open the Pandora’s box and move into new technologies the temptations for new stuff is hard to resist.

What is the model number of the Hisense TV you suggested. Of this and the LG which would you recommend? Would I be best sticking with one of these TVs or going down a screen size e.g. 50inch and perhaps getting a better overall set for my budget?

I saw a review for the lg set on ratings.com that wasn’t overly flattering.

Thanks again,

Michael

Hey MFour.

The model of the Hisense is the 55N5300

If you dropped a size you could look at the Samsung 49MU6400 priced at 659.00 Euro
http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202612-ue49mu6400.aspx?swapstore=1

If a visit to the store here in Belfast is an option there is also the Samsung 50MU6120 priced at 569.00 Euro (In store only collection).
http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-202890-samsung-ue50mu6120.aspx?swapstore=1

Thanks Kenny,

I looked at the specs and some of the reviews for the Hisense and the Samsung and they both look good. I am very interested in the Samsung. Do you sell the brackets to wall mount them and the Chromecast 4K? Is there anything else I need in terms of cabling etc. There I note that Pricespy Ireland would appear to have some cheaper suppliers. In Richer Sounds specs for I see there is a link to a Samsung deal for €200 of a qualifying all in one soundbar. Do you have any of these in stock; could you give me some details, please. Are they worth considering?

Thanks for all your help,

Michael

Hi Michael,

We do indeed stock brackets for this TV. It depends if you are looking for it to sit flat to the wall or have a tilt or full motion function. We do not currently stock the Chromecast unfortunately. You shouldn't need any other cabling, just HDMIs for your connected sources and possibly an aerial cable for the tuner.

The All In One soundbar promotion is via redemption. You would need to buy the soundbar at full price and then after 30 days claim through Samsungs website. They are good soundbars but I find you can get a better sound through a manufacturer who makes good speakers such as Dali or Monitor Audio. I'm also unsure if the promotion is available in ROI, I would need to look into that for you.

Let me know what you think.

Kind regards

David

Thanks David,

I would like it flat on the wall. Could you quote me your best price on the Samsung, with appropriate bracket and an aerial cable. Do you have them in stock and what is the approx delivery time?

Regarding the Soundbar, thanks for your comments. We are just after refurbishing the room that the TV will go into; so extras such as a Soundbar are not in my budget. I got tempted when I saw the offer. If the Samsung offer applies to ROI; can you let me know the cost of the appropriate Soundbar. In addition can you tell me what you would recommend from some of the more traditional audio manufacturers.

Kind regards,

Michael

Hi Michael.

A bracket to hold the 49MU6400 flat to the wall would be the Sanus VLL5
http://www.richersounds.ie/p-12678-vll5.aspx?swapstore=1

I could do the TV and the bracket for 707.99 Euro delivered and including our 6 year guarantee free of charge with the television.

The Samsung soundbar money back offer includes both the UK and Ireland.
http://www.samsung.com/uk/offer/soundbar/

Soundbars in the deal are:
HW-MS650
https://www.richersounds.com/sams-hwms650-xu.html

HW-MS751
https://www.richersounds.com/samsung-hwms751-silver.html

If none of the Samsungs catch your eye you could maybe look at the Q Acoustics M4 which is priced at 285 Euro
http://euro.richersounds.ie/p-200641-black-200641.aspx

Yamaha Also make some good sounding soundbars also, like the YAS207 priced at 349.00 Euro

Let me know what you think.

Hi Kenny,

Thank you very much for the recommendations. The Sanus bracket and the Samsung 49MU6400 TV look like a good combination. I had also mentioned to David to include a Tuner aerial in the quote. Approx. how long should it take from an order to delivery for these items?

The soundbars you recommend do catch my eye; but reluctantly I think I will need to park this for the moment and revisit at a later date.

Is there anything else you can do on the price? I noticed that Pricespy.ie has some competitive quotes for the TV and stand we are discussing.

Thanks again for all your help.

Kind regards,

Michael

Hi Michael,

The prices listed above would be our best I'm afraid. If you are looking at a separate aerial I would recommend the One For All SV9435 indoor aerial at £39.95.

Let me know what you think.
