The Humax hb1000, cuppled with a hdds is a good single tuner for recording if you are prepared to use it in conjunction with your existing tuner for viewing, usb stick wouldnt be a good way to go, I had this arrangement, Humax +500gb hdd with a sky HD box for viewing about 2 years ago, changed to HDR1100S a year ago because of hassle of swapping tv source and remote. By the time you buy a tuner and hdd, there isnt much of a difference in the coast of a twin tuner.

Hi thanks for your reply, I don't mean to ask silly questions this is all quite new to me, what do you mean by using it in Conjunction with another tuner, would the humax hb 1000 record?thanks in advance

If you were to use your sky v8 for viewing and the Humax for recording, Yes the hb1000 can record to a hdd, a hdd would be better, more reliable than a usb stick. I had a Manhatten freesat box some time ago but the humax is far better.
