Wrong spec, aim for an ES model as a minimum. That would add cruise control, dual climate control, panoramic roof, auto lights and wipers and auto folding mirrors. It's also a tad pricey.

I've got a 09 1.8ES. They can be a bit hard to find as they're a solid car and people keep them.
I bought mine from John Adams in Portlaoise, at the time they seemed to have a one or two in every so often.

I've a 2007 ES too and the spec for a car "of its age" is very good, definitely worth holding out for one if you aren't in a rush.

I'd also be looking privately for one, your money will go a lot further privately and they'd be a relatively safe buy with no warranty.

Let us know how you get on.
    Thinking of getting one myself.
I've read a good bit about them. They are very well made and good on juice.

Looks tidy but seems expensive to me for a 12 year old Civic.

It is expensive, but the mileage helps. I would want to be getting it for around €2750

I hear yeah, is there anything missing spec wise from the one i posted?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,522 ✭✭✭✭colm_mcm

Nope. There are obviously higher spec ones with satnav, leather etc - but they're very rare. That one you posted is an ES but with 17" alloys instead of 16".

Keep in mind they don't have an aux in or Bluetooth as standard.

An aftermarket head unit is the only way to go on these imo. The original head unit is rubbish and it's common for them to fail. It's a bit on the expensive side to replace though by the time you have the fitting kit purchased as well.

Yeah, no problem. Just factor the cost in if it's something you will need.

Not sure that there is (bar fitting a new stereo)

I used a bluetooth to fm transmitter unit for a year or so in an old car, but it's a cludge. Sound quality at best acceptable: was ok for podcasts (spoken word) but for music wouldn't be a good solution.

Very hard to find a clean frequency, certainly not one that's clean all across the country. I had one that worked well all over Dublin and between Dublin and Portlaoise, but on way to Cork it would get clobbered by another station 3/4 of the way south.

Was a yoke same as this: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/LCD-Display-BC06-Car-MP3-Audio-Player-Bluetooth-FM-Transmitter-Transmiter-FM-Modulator-Car-Kit-USB/32823824603.html
Worked surprisingly well as a bluetooth hands-free, so long as you found your satisfactory FM frequency.

You can get a unit that plugs into the cd changer port and gives you an aux in, this will play the music through the head unit and is the best way to do it.
For Bluetooth, there are any number of kits that will do.

You can get a combined Bluetooth and aux in kit like the Parrot MKi9000 but it just won't look right on the dash and I personally don't think the sound out of them is that great (it has its own amp)

Fitting a good quality double DIN sized touchscreen head unit with modern features is the nicest way to do it, but you'll spend a good bit doing it.

You will but the original radio is really dreadful and not very reliable so it's nearly worth doing. A touchscreen does indeed suit the car best but some regular doubke din units that dont cost the earth dont look out of place either in these.

My radio on mine is 11 years old, the sound could be better though.
To me anyway - Any non touch screen aftermarket radio always looks wrong in a newer car, unless it was designed to be a direct replacement like some of the ones you see for German cars.

Sold a beautiful 06 ses back in August for 1800e with less mileage and very well cared for with 4 new bridgestone potenzas, new discs, pads and fully serviced.
I know it was private sale and the less desired saloon but that is well over priced imo.
The saloon version was made in Japan as well as having fully independent suspension.
    Might be worth considering.
Best of luck in the hunt

The buttons failed on mine which apparently is very common, the sound was terrible too, very low, poor quality sound. I definitely agree that traditional head units look out of place on newer cars but on the civic you will get away with it with some head units imo.

I've seen one fitted with an alpine unit that looked well. Maybe to others it might look out of place but to me it looked fine and I am picky
