As per title my 84 year old(human years obviously :)) dog has a sore on his foot that he keeps licking and is making it worse. What's the best course of action go to vets and get a lamp shade and keep it on until it clears up. He had it before but it cleared up and he obviously went back at it just before Christmas. It is a raised sore as in it is about half a inch high but only the top part is exposed from him licking it.

I was lying in bed earlier with him and I wasn't really paying attention and I could hear him licking himself and then I remembered about the sore and jumped up sure enough he was licking it.

    Vets and a cone.

Was in the same situation a few weeks back. Vet put her on anutbotics for a week and a cone. Job done. Vet advised not to cover it to stop her licking it as it needed fresh air to heal.

Always worth getting a vet to check anything like this OP - is it an injury or a 'callous'?

My elderly dog used to get a corn like sore on his pads - I started massaging some vaseline into his pads every evening - it was part of our lying on the sofa habit. I used to pop a sock onto each paw to keep him from licking for a while, while he slept beside me - he would be comatose in the evenings on the sofa by the fire
