Insulation question

Slightly odd question here. I'm hoping to insulate my wooden shed, and I see that woodies have rolls of knauf 200mm insulation reduced to €15 a roll.

This is too thick to fit into the depth of my batons on the shed, so my query is how difficult is it to split a roll of insulation along the depth, that is split it so I end up with two rolls 100mm thick, or would I just end up with a huge mess.

Alternatively, if anybody know of cheap rolls of insulation with less depth, please feel free to throw up a link

that stuff shouldn't be compressed in any way in order to work

If its a standard small wooden shed you have about 25mm depth between batons?

I'm aware of the non compression issue, I wanted to see was a split at least minimally possible. If it was I could look at multiple splits. If I'll just end up knee deep in tufts of insulation, I won't bother.

Thanks for the link above, but this is being done on a strictly shoe string budget

They sell that stuff in woodies in 100mm thickness aswell, you get a longer roll than the 200mm

Thanks for all the replies so far. Some quick calculations. The overall sqm I've to cover is 22 (6'x8' barna shed), so the polystyrene sheeting would work out at €90, the 100mm insulation comes in at €54 without spliting, so back to the original thought, is it possible to split the insulation by thickness

possibly but it's insulation value would be hugely diminished and would be a right pain to deal with , have never tried it nor would i.

Have you ever spent a day working with fibreglass insulation?

I would honestly wait and pay 90 for a better job

Don't see why you couldn't split it - just wear a proper mask for the job and cover exposed skin as the stuff goes everywhere!!
