Currently have a Waterford Erin Stove installed and we intend taking it out as we feel it is not heating all the rads.

What is the biggest stove on market, we need one that provides 6.5 KW (based on room dimensions) output for the living room, and there are 20 rads as well. What would be the best option for me?

how much fuel are you burning in the stove at present . that stove is a 19kw stove with 75% efficiency so to get that output you would have to burn 7.3kg of dry wood per hour or 5.4kg of peat per hour or 3.8kg of coal per hour.

I,m not sure to be honest how much fuel we are burning

    20 rads?
Forget about it.... How many are double rads?

    Back of envelope calculation....

Look at it this way if you are burning 9kg of good quality coal (about 1/4 bag) a day in a 19kw stove that is supposed to be good for 9 rads you are going to have to burn more than double that (half a bag of good coal) in a stove that can heat 20 rads. So really to heat 20 rads (for part of the day) you need to be burning nearly 4 bags of coal a week.

thanks and what output or type of a stove would be required for 20 rads?

If the Erin (not far off Waterford Stanley's biggest stove, I think the Reginald might be the biggest) is has a notional 13kw boiler and is supposed to be good for 9 rads then assuming there is such an average rad then you need around double that for 20 rads.

Just looked up the Reginald and they say its good for 12 std rads with a 14kw boiler output.

A quick google comes up with this beast for 20 rads http://www.blacksmithstoves.ie/blacksmith-stoves-product-range/the-furnace.html the Furnace and with a 22kw boiler and 8kw room output you'll need to wear protective clothing to get anywhere near it ;) Provided of course you can afford the fuel to run it :)

Yeah sounds like you'd be better with something like an oil boiler and using the stove as backup. 20 rads is a lot. Parents have maybe 12 running from a Stanley cooker and still have oil that they use part time. Early mornings etc

again a 75% efficient stove so to get the 30kw output you would have to burn 6kg of coal per hour quick google showed coal at 450 euro per ton so that works out at 2.70 euro for the coal to get the same out put from oil condensing boiler 97% efficient with oil at 67.7 cent per liter works out at 2.09 euro

So you have 29 rads... Each double counts as 2..

No stove will heat them all.

You would have to question the plumber that installed that system ? I do they just do as they are instructed ?

Probably works fine on oil... The stove will struggle to keep them warm let alone got
