Hilux all day long.. Toyota really are the best with the landcruiser and hilux.

You might have issues getting crewcab tax. I'm assuming you don't want to pay 2.4/2.5 private tax.

Neighbour on his second l200, of that era. He is happy enough with them just anytime I've been in it the turning circle is very poor and if I was doing a lot of driving in it the back wouldn't be happy, seating position isn't very comfortable but they could be common with all older pickups so best to check both I guess

Wouldnt be too bothered about rear seats position.would only be short journeys.ill see what i can get for the van and take it from there.was more wondering really about them mechanically if they wer reliable etc.

By the back I meant my back in the front seats, not the back seats sorry for confusion. Considering getting something myself for farm but don't like the price of them 10 yr + aged ones and the thought of putting a couple hundred into em every year to keep road legal but then again what you don't lose in repairs with newer ones you pay for in depreciation. Some models have king cabs which have a rear bench but no doors, may do for collect8ng kids and may be cheaper to buy and get a newer model

Hilux by a mile. Father had both. Not messing the L200 was the worst thing I ever drove. Hilux is fine for such a big joke. Both will be pretty reliable. And to echo another poster the turning circle in L200 was horrendous.

We've had an 08 Hilux 3.0l from new with 140k on the clock (UK import as we couldn't get the spec we wanted in the Republic at the time). First gear is way too high for a towing vehicle resulting in a weak clutch but otherwise it's been faultless. The father puts whatever fuel additive he uses for the tractors in and the engine has been perfect.

I'd say the OPs budget will only cover the older model with the Hiace 2.4/2.5 engine

Would have been nice at the time if they had put the 6 speed in the Hilux like the Land Cruiser got.

a decent l200 is not the worst but drive one the turning circle is comical its so bad , Its really hard to believe till you drive one

Pity this thread has started now, I'm not quite in a position to sell a commercial 03 Isuzu crew cab with Carryboy hard top on it that would probably fit this requirement nicely, I have a replacement (non commercial) vehicle that has to be repaired before I can let the Isuzu go.

In terms of what to look out for, crew cabs of that vintage have an annoying habit of rusting badly on the back tub, which can be a pain to sort out. Slightly newer Nissan crew cabs had severe chassis cracking issues that caused huge numbers of them to be taken off the road.
Not sure if it's still an issue, at one time, there were problems with L200 cylinder heads but I can't remember the exact details.

Shore, if it was easy, everybody would be doin it.😁

Isuzu dmax as above would be one to consider too I'd rate them over an l200.

The older hilux's are great if perhaps a little agricultural. Finding cheap well minded ones is the biggest challenge though.
