Hey people. I'm just starting to tyre kick and am wondering if anyone is running a Lexus IS300H. I'm covering pretty high mileage (60k kms per annum) and would like to know if anyone has experience with covering that kind of mileage in one. I'm specifically interesting in the fuel economy and running costs.

I'm currently driving an Avensis D4D, running costs aren't too bad with 5.7l/100km and servicing has been cheap.

That seens to answer most things. Only other issue for me is that I generally travel with a boot full of books. Would that fave a very negative impact?

Mine is currently running at 6.0l/100km. It was 5.9 back in September when i bought it. Not sure how it would change with a boot full of books.

By the way i spend most of my time on N roads to 100kph so fuel economy will be worse on motorways.

I bought it so i didn't have to worry about dieselitus. No EGR, no turbo, no clutch, no DPF, no high pressure fuel pump, no injectors, no gearbox. Plus no gear changes which is surprisingly nice.

If it's a regular commute and you can afford the capital cost of an EV you'd be better off going in that direction.
I do ~60,000km myself in my EV.

The new Leaf for example would be a good fit for a ~200km commute.

Afraid EV is out for me due to range. A round trip of 600km a day isn't unusual

Current car has no such issues and currebtly shows no signs of any. I like the Lexus range but need them to be somewhat economical to run.

Fair enough. Regularly relying on the public rapid chargers is not really a good option at the moment due to the lack of any investment and the queuing.

Problem is that there is a high probability one of these will go and the cost will offset any saving in diesel you have. Never mind the time off the road while car is in garage.

The only person I know with an honestly trouble free diesel has an old 1.4 sdi from 1988.
