Family bought me replacement TV for Xmas. I have a very old sky box (10-12 yrs) which I use in bedroom. Unfortunately Tv only has HDMI connection whereas the box has only scart. Can I buy a reconditioned box with HDMI connection and how much would it cost approx ???

Do you have a Sky subscription or are you using the sky box only for free channels?

If subscription then you can get used sky+ HD boxes very cheap from ebay, adverts.ie, donedeal, etc.

If only free channels then you would be much better off with a proper FTA or Freesat box than another sky box.

What's the make & model of the TV? It might have a built-in satellite tuner, if it's only non-sub. stuff you're watching.

You can pick one up on adverts for next to nothing.

You could use the RF output from SKY Box using an aerial fly lead as a stop gap solution and tune into the matching analogue channel on the tv, e.g. channel 40.

The Amstrad DRX 595 is the multiroom box you are probably looking for. Does HD via its HDMI socket. As said, should be available via adverts for a decent price. Various online satellite retailers also still offer new and/or refurbished boxes.

Does the TV have phono sockets at the back (the red white & yellow type) for component a/v in.. If it does you could use a scart to phono cable.

If you rang up sky would they not just give you a brand new box? albeit doing so would probably mean you entering a new 12 month contract. But if you've no intention of leaving then at least you have a brand new box and don't have to be faffing about with adverts etc.
