Is anyone on here who is a member of Engineers Ireland been recording their CPD for the year?

I'm approx 9hrs down on the total for the year. More though a lack of time than anything else.

How is everyone else getting on with it so far?

I've done it yeah, had well in excess of the hours required. I'm keeping my own record in addition to the online portal as I've been burned with similar systems before.

If you're struggling for hours have you included any structured reading of any standards or technical journals etc? How about preparing for and undergoing a performance review? Also check out the engineers Ireland YouTube channel, a lot of their events are recorded so you can watch them back at your convenience. They also do have some free e-learning courses available to members.

Nope I have yet to do it myself.. again time constraints. Not sure I agree personally with the policy of being forced to log cpd by engineers Ireland.. have been a member for a good few years and members should have the choice whether they are able to be silent or vocal

I suppose first of all CPD does NOT mean attending a course. There are several ways you can develop professionally throughout the year. This might be having a chat with a senior colleague about a particular topic, reading an article in the paper about engineering, being mentored by your immediate supervisor during a project, or even watching an episode of Extreme Engineering on Youtube. It could also be that you gave a presentation on something, or you studied a particular text in order to relay information to a project design team. The goal here is not to show Engineers Ireland that you've forked out thousands for CPD Accredited courses, but rather to show that you're broadening your knowledge of a particular topic, your knowledge of what it means to be a professional, your communication skills, leadership skills, etc.

In reality you probably have exceeded the min. CPD requirement just by being employed so don't worry too much about it!
