Hi, struggling to find a course online. Looking to become an accountant for the reason that I’m sick of my dead end factory job. Anybody know an institution that offers such a course online? Tia

You won't become an accountant by doing an online course. Typically, you need a Level 8 degree, your professional qualifications and three years working in a practice or one of the Big 4.

Spoken like a true academic, Tom :) You're listing one particular, albeit tried and tested, route into accounting.

There are several professional bodies that allow people to take exams - some of which can be studied online/at home. BBP & Kaplan

One can also start out with an Accounting Technician course which is a traditional starting point for those getting started without a prior degree. Again, these can be studied at home.

And getting exams under your belt is a good starting point before seeking employment in practice, industry or the civil service.

Exams are only part of what's required to become an accountant (although, once you've your exams passed you're considered "qualified", strangely enough). To become a member you'll need experience, some of which will need to be post qualified.

However, you should also consider getting an accounting degree, which could be studied through the Open University, which would give you exemptions from the professional exams.
