Now that cork city and county no longer has a local youth station, wouldn't it make sense if the Spin sw licence was extended to cover Cork ?

I don't think there is sufficient frequencies to do this, it might be more likely to split Cork up and have Beat cover east Cork and Spin cover north Cork. Cork city and West Cork are then up for debate.

C103/96 have 11 transmitters (Cork City/Hollyhill, West Cork/Nowen Hill, North Cork/Mount Hillery, North East Cork/Kilworth Hills, Fermoy, Youghal, Carrigaline, Kinsale, Bantry, Clonakilty and Macroom).

RedFM have 9 (Cork City/Churchfield, West Cork/Nowen Hill, North Cork/Corran, Fermoy, Bantry, Millstreet, Youghal, Kinsale, Carrigaline).

4FM have 7 (Cork City/Churchfield, West Cork/Nowen Hill, North Cork/Bweeng, Mitchelstown, Bantry, Youghal, Carrigaline).

Of course the easy solution would be to have one of the FOUR existing stations target the market. If 4FM go belly up in the next few years that might make things easier, although 4FM does seem to be fairly popular in Cork relative to their total audience.

Klub FM 87.5 have to be commended for what they have going at the minute. Playlist, audio and signal are all top notch.

Just jumping on board this thread for a quick Spin SW question - how good is their coverage in kerry supposed to be -- had a junior member of the family in the car over Christmas and reception was very patchy at times west of Dingle and even in the town and just east of it we sometimes just got a frequency with no station id and a good few crackles. Many thanks -- just being curious - its not a station I often hear :)

It should be merged with SPIN 1038 and given a national licence.

Makes more sense than having two separate stations.

Klub is fairly good alright, but isn’t Red supposed to be the youth station for Cork city and county?

Not to their owners it doesn't, hence they haven't applied for it. The local focus, which is what they believe makes those stations successful, would be lost.

actually it makes no sense. again this is another suggestion with no merrit to it i'm afraid. only stations with a specialist format which couldn't be licenced locally due to viability should be given a national licence. spin, just like fm104, isn't that station, as it's format is viable locally (or regionally in the case of spin south west)

I'm very highly educated. I know words, i have the best words, nobody has better words then me.
