Need some help as usual...getting different info from different people...hoping to set up as sole trader in new year, as i posted before. I am a tennis coach and my club said i can do some hours during week with them and there coaching season ( 6 weeks ) ..they need coaches. They are a club and full volunteers but they need coaches. I was told on thia site that if i register as sole trader and do the club work that i would then become there employee bc using there courts etc and club would be penalised ??? Im a sole trader tennis coach...where am i supposed to work if not a club. They said same if i do schools tennis work. I would be a school employee bc i use there facilities

    Is this true please

It depends very much on the details of your arrangement with the club/ school. Will you be paying them for the use of their facilities (beyond that of use as a private individual)?
Will you be providing your own equipment?

How will your clients first contact you? Through the club/ school or will you be advertising independently?

If one of your clients hurts themselves, will they be claiming on the facilities insurance, or will it be through your insurance?

Will you be setting your own hours, or will the club/ school be setting them?

Will the club/ school be handling your payments from clients at any stage?

There's a helpful leaflet on the revenue site https://www.revenue.ie/en/self-assessment-and-self-employment/construction-industry/are-you-self-employed-or-an-employee.aspx

Its a tricky area, and if I were you I would go to an accountant for some advice before doing anything else. I know my local accountant gave me some really good advice before I started up and stopped me making some really stupid mistakes.

Well im a lifelong member of club...since i was 11 so they know me...any private lessons i pay club for use of courts. Club coaching is what they run for only 12 weeks...6 weeks spring...6 winter

I will advertise independently to schools but im a member of club so they will ask me for lessons as they would be club members and i pay club for courts. I dont get a wage

I have my own insurance seperate amd equipment

Well i would work with club on hours....mainly a set time though..after school..just for 6 weeks

From schools they pay me seperate..club not involved..private lessons i would get paid seperate. Club would only pay me for club school coaching. I would look after own taxes and hoping to do other clubs ..schools etc

    op

if you are worried why not just call the Revenue Commissioners and ask their advice?

If they see you are trying to do the right thing they can be very helpful, _unless you get an unhelpful one_ and it doesnt cost anything to ask.

    Good luck with the venture.
