Anyone ever do a bit of freight train hopping?

Watched a few videos of people going around the US on freight trains. Looks like a look way to see the country.

Be a bit of a problem in Ireland since there are very few freight trains left and certainly none that one could safely stow away in.

Apart from the trespass element of such activities on private property, riding freight trains is a recipe for severed limbs if not death. It just takes one slip.
