New Job in December no P45 from previous employer, taxed at 40%

    Hi folks,

Wondering what the best way to get around this is.

    Scenario is:

    Finished Job A in November
    Started Job B in December

Job A have yet to issue a P45 and in December's pay with Job B I was taxed at 40% (i.e. no credits allocated to Job B).

Logging into myAccount shows both jobs as Active (i.e. Job A should be showing as Ceased by now).

Will I get the overtax back after submitting a P21 request in January and what's the best way of ensuring I don't see a repeat in January? My pay is nowhere near the Standard Rate Cut off.

    Thanks

You will get it back. Make sure to request a balancing statement ASAP in January, though it will be busy so might take a little while.

Should I wait till Job A is showing as ceased before I do this?

Actually, Revenue will need the P35 from one (or both employers) or the P45 from the first employer first. They will automatically combine all declared income and apply your full tax credits and bands.

Contact Revenue and get them to assign full tax credits and bands to your new employer ASAP in the new year.
