Hi guys, I have been trying to get my mazada 6 passed the NCT (failed emmissions) but it will cost too much to put right. I will have to buy a car in short notice so have around 2k to spend.

Any opinions welcome on what you would recommend. I saw this one while browsing this morning:

Thanks guys and happy New year.

Thanks I was thinking the same, Hondas are always well thought of on this forum, I might have a little more budget, I have about a month to purchase the car so I have a little time :-)

Thanks guys, i see these cars nct are up in Mar/June, maybe I am expecting a little much with my budget, but would I try to get in with a longer NCT. I don't want to get stung again with an emmissions failure

Also, anything I should look out for with these cars, clutch , gear box, timing belt?

    Thanks guys

Those Mazda 6 with the 1.8 petrol are prone to failing on emissions, the engines are well known for being weak.

The same isn't said for the Civics 1.8 engine, there are a few members on here with Civics with that engine well over 200k kms with no issues. They are also a chain driven engine so there is no timing belt to worry about. They are a very dependable car.

There's not much to look out for really, they are very good cars if they have been anyway looked after.

Thanks for that, can I ask one last question :-), if I could get a similar year Accord (I know the tax is a lot more) would they be as dependable?

I think the petrol Accords gave timing chain trouble which would put me off a bit. The 2.0 in the Accord isn't nearly as fuel efficient as the 1.8 in the Civic either. That and I think the Civic still looks like a fresher design even if it's a bit smaller of a car.

You could still do worse than a petrol Accord though.

Accord would be more comfortable but less economical to run as it is a class above Civic.

I would prefer a high spec petrol accord over a civic if fuel consumption and slightly more expensive servicing/in cost is not an issue.

DoneDeal generally. A realistic price is key to shifting your own.

What year is it? What condition is it otherwise in?

Will try that, condition prefect , 2008 is the year, it's the sports model, real shame as it's a decent looking car form that era, damn NCT

The 1.8 is well known for burning excessive oil which in turn raise emission levels and a new engine is usually the cheaper option but then your buying a 8/9 year old engine and it could be just as bad as the one its replacing rendering the car near worthless.

Stick a link up for your ad on donedeal when you advertise it.
