Hi guys I'm building a small kitchen extension, but would like to make the extension 2 feet wider which means coming out the side. Do I need planning, a neighbour who recently got her extension done, also went wider and said you don't need planning. She got drawings done by an architect, surely he would have advised them.

2 feet wider at the side of the main house or 2 feet wider at the rear of the house?

It makes a difference and the first needs planning while the second doesn’t.

Sorry it's 2 feet wider at the side of the main house, I'm just wondering how are neighbour said you don't need planning, we also know her architect who also said you don't need planning ðŸ˜

Ask the architect to comfirm that he will issue a cert of exemption from planning on completion of the build for you.

    1. Yes you need planning
    2. Your Neighbour told you, they didn’t need planning.. you don’t know what the arch advises them, or what s/he was contracted to do.

Either your neighbor was misinformed or decided to take the risk.
It most definitely requires planning permission.
