Because some debt collectors are criminals.

Some of every profession are criminals. This isn’t a basis for a ban on dealing with the profession.

So, presumably, are some solicitors' clients who don't pay their bills.

Debt collectors have no right to bring you to court.

Ignore them. They operate on fear and ignorance

Why would a solicitor pass a bill for unpaid fees onto a debt collector who pretends to be a solicitor?

If there is no chance you are going to get paid, then for about 10% of the initial fee you can sell the debt on.

But if the Debt collector catches up with you. Then he will want the full fee plus administration, costs and a few other costs. They usually operate using fear and intimidation. Remember the Viper Foley one of Martin Cahills INLA buddies did it during the early recession years?

Or just pay your debt, ideally before the collectors get involved.

Is this not a legal question? I got a pm from a mod saying no legal advice in legal advice section.

    Lol sell the debt on.
Have you ever tried to sell a debt on ?
To initiate debt collection you need to give a deposit so they know you are serious and you now have skin in the game.
The legitimate company's just write letters and make phone calls threatening court.
Companies like Viper require a fee UPFRONT and dont touch anything under 5k
Its not easy to get money owed to you.
I am currently receiving €10 per week to pay off a 10k court judgement. If you are the one who ows the money dont worry it will just go away.
You will get blacklisted thats about it.
If you are on welfare they can threaten to "garnish" your welfare but that will only be a small sum and only if you owe money to the harp if its a private individual dont sweat it.

Couldn't this be seen as a breach of confidentiality by the solicitor?

^^no - the soliticors are not sharing the details of your case or information told to them in confidence. It’s simply transferring the debt owed.

I would respectfully beg to differ.

Anyone has a right to bring you to court.

Is this transfer of a debt legitimate and allowed? If I owe Joe Bloggs 5 Euros, by what authority can anybody say it is now owed to a third party?
