Breast Cancer Fatigue

    Hello

I hope someone can give me advice.

September 2016 my mother had breast cancer cells removed during surgery.

Then in late November 2016 she began 5 weeks of radiation finishing January 6th.

I am aware that the build up of radiation results in fatigue.

I have done research and found out some patients can stay in bed 36 to 48 hours.

My mother currently is like that since Friday night. She isn't far off 36 hours.

I am really worried it could stay that way tomorrow too.

Should I be worried and consult a doctor or is this normal.

She has been feeling it for a few months but worse this weekend. The cancer support counsellor said most don't suffer fatigue during treatment. Which is true of my mother.

They said over time radiation builds up and can cause fatigue and some patients suffer fatigue 2 years after treatment.

I can only speak from my experience of another cancer (esophageal) - I still get tired, I do think that there is a 'new normal' post treatment but it does get better with time. I am an 11 year survivor at this stage.

Glad to hear of a survivor.

We misread the signals at the time. We now believe my mother's tiredness was due to suffering with Lung Cancer.

Unfortunately cancer doctors can't do anything to help her get better. It's so hard.
