Metal Roof for traditional cottage?

    hello Folks,

Am thinking of going this route for a complete renovation and extension on 150 year old cottage..
What kind of metal roof might look good on an old cottage like this? Bright Galvanize? Or dark corrugated sheeting? I also have an ulterior motive as I hope to put an extension at back which may have a very low pitch.

    All help appreciated.

    Thank you

    Corrugated sheeting in red.

    Thanks elperello,

have been told something similar by another person.
Were you thinking more like the half round type farmers used or the one with more flat sections. Images attached but don't know if they work. Thanks

    Your image didn't show.
I would go for the round profile on an old vernacular cottage.
See this link for an idea of it.

    thanks again,

is it difficult to install a VELUX or similar in a corrugated roof?

Velux supply flashing kits to suit different profiles.
You would need to check with your supplier to ensure they are compatible with the sheeting you are using.
Exact colour matches would be unlikely so you would need to allow for a slight variation or a suitable contrasting finish.

Ideally if it's a full refurb and you hope to keep it looking as traditional as possible I'd be looking at getting the red corrugated sheeting manufactured as an insulated sandwich panel. As in refurb with up to date methods while keeping the finished product looking like it's 100 years old

The traditional red green and grey colours are a farm paint finish http://www.morrisdiy.com/25L-DULUX-GALOXIDE.html .
