There are tonnes of different types of laptops. There is no perfect. It's the same with cars, a perfect sports car is not so good off-road.

What size do you want? Small and light for carrying around? Is larger better since it will be on a desk most of the time? Or somewhere in the middle.

Price: How much do you want to spend, you can spend anywhere from 300 to 5000 on laptops.

Usage: Will there be any programs out of the normal you want to run. Photoshop? Games? Or just web and office?

Thanks guys for your answer. Actually, my budget is GBP 350-400. Asus, Acer, Lenovo and Dell are some popular brands but I am not able to judge about a particular model of a brand. Dell xps13 is very expensive, which is out of my budget. It will be very helpful if anyone (preferably a user) can suggest me a laptop between GBP 350–400.

Also, I want to know which brand gives better after sales service. I will be taking this laptop to India, so I want to buy a brand which have good after sales service in India too.

    "Best laptop" - "350 squids".

    Things never change do they?

My advice. Forget about aftersales, it's not going to work on your travels unless you pay serious money. Just get the best spec you can and hope for the best.

For your price range you really are looking at the bottom end, and build quality is pretty similar across a lot of the brands. Cheap plastic and not so great specs. But you should be able to get a computer that does the basics for what you need.

So this has very limited disk space at 64GB, but the processor is actually very decent for what it is. It is perhaps a bit large for what you need but the price is good:

This one is 499, but that's today only by the looks of it. So it might be sold out by now:

Much better spec and a better all round machine. It's 14" too which again is a bit big.
