Herdowner and Herdkeeper and Confusing Forms

    Evening folks. I'm sure this has been asked before but I've searched through and can't find anything that makes it easier for me to understand.

    Can someone explain the difference between herd keeper and herd owner, and the ER1 and ER1.1 forms. I thought it was straight forward and went into the local Teagasc office for the forms and got an advisor to run me through them, but it seems to have confused me a bit more.

    My grandmother has been left her husbands farm. I've ran the farm the last few years for him doing everything bar sign the cheques. I told her I'll keep doing the same for her so she has a few bob coming in. It's no big chore for me and I enjoy it.

    We were advised by a family friend to change the herd number to her name and have me appointed as a herd keeper.

    We got the forms as I said but I'm totally confused trying to fill them out. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful in my question but I really am confused by the forms and all these terms. I'm not sure whose info I'm supposed to put on which form.

    I'll keep looking to get some info but if anyone could offer some help it would be most appreciated. As I said I've been to Teagasc office but I came out more confused than when I went in.

    Thanks in advance.

    Go to a private planner, they are more clued in than the Teagasc lads as far as I can see. You should have left the office with everything filled in and ready to go if they were any use.

    I had to do similar earlier in year when my Dad got sick. The forms are very confusing and may look very confusing to the actual herd owner as it can look like you are trying taking ownership.

    The best thing is to fill them out best you can then go into the DVO in person and explain what you are trying to achieve, they will be very helpful in sorting out the finer details.

    Those forms are a disgrace. I remember having to read them like 10 times before I understood them. I'll dig them out tomorrow and get back to you.

    Herd owner - cheque will be made out to them
    Herd keeper - responsible person for the care of the animals and maintaining records etc

    Maybe this will explain it;
    I added the highlighter.

    Thanks folks. I'll head to the RVO after the Christmas period. Forms need to be simplified. The form for keeper seems like it should be for owner and visa versa.
