Hi i am considering doing a engine swap out of a BMW e39 530d into a 89 E34 BMW which has a 520i petrol engine . The question i want to know is how do the nct deal with this the E34 didnt get a diesel engine until 91 so when they look for it on there computer they wont find the engine to do the emission test.

I no expert on this, but to have the have swap documented by a main dealer and send form to Shannon, then when the car arrives at nct i will have the the swap of fuel / engine number on the system and that's what they will test. The tests are based on year bands rather then specific engines so far your car never had that engine should not matter.

if you can pull it off sound like a great combo.

524td was available from 1988 when the car was launched

Thanks for that i should have no problem in nct then . Do you need a inspector to look over the car before the nct or can i just thake it to the nct after getting the cars registration papers changed.

I'd say you would need an engineers report for the N.C.T.

Plus you'll probably need to update your insurance too.
