The wiper interface looks clunky. I thought the model 3 had auto wipers by default?

It will... the software hasn't been added yet (the Model 3 didn't have FM radio until a few weeks ago 'cause the software wasn't ready yet).
The idea is practically everyone will be using auto-wipers so why dedicate physical controls to anything beyond the single swipe and washers.

Worth also pointing out in case anyone failed to notice... the washer nozzles are on the wipers themselves.

That's a really nice feature to have. Driven a few cars/vans with this. Might be more prone to freezing unless it's heated.

That must make the wipers pretty expensive to replace?!

The blades themselves are replaced separately.

Certainly. AFAIK they are not heated even with the premium interior pack (which adds the heated seats etc) so I'd avoid using plain water as washer fluid. A good pre-mixed fluid with ethanol should do the trick.

One of my my main gripes with the Tesla Model S is the poor wipers. The automatic function is never at a rate that makes me satisfied, unlike my Nissan Leaf which seemed to almost read my mind. The Tesla's blades seem to do a great job as they go from horizontal to vertical, but they leave streaks on the window as they return to the horizontal position. It might sound trivial but the roads where I live are covered in muck at the moment thanks to a local business and other farming activity. Its imposible to drive behind a truck as the screen gets too mucky too fast, but its scary overtaking a truck in the wet as the wash from its wheels can render you blind in a split second.

Is there a stalk for the wipers in the Model S or are they controlled by the touchscreen too?

They are on the same stalk as the high/low beam.

Does anyone know how many model 3's are reserved in Ireland?
