We've had a family bereavement so need to travel asap to South Africa.
Does anyone know if it's possible to still get standby or cancelled (no show) flights at Dublin airport?

Speak to one of the airlines directly. I had to travel home from Australia to Ireland at short notice due to a death in the family, and when the situation was explained to them, they did everything they could to help. Air Lingus especially were great.

Between all the different options (Emirates, Etihad, Turkish, Ethiopian, British Airways, KLM, Air France etc) I am sure there are still tickets available to buy for today or tomorrow.

Call the airlines directly as they may offer a bereavement discount.

My friends father died in South Africa last year. He got out fine with Emirates via Dubai. The only thing that's potentially problematic is the time of year that's in it.

Very sorry for your loss OP.

just by looking up skyscanner, theres return flights leaving tonight and back in 7 days for €1100 with emirates, which is not a bad price.

Going to the airport for standby is only really practical if the ticketing carrier actually operates from their themselves; with BA, VS and SA being the core carriers on that route and only BA having any presence its nowhere near that useful; the middle eastern airlines all operate too but wouldn't have any deals at the desk.

Skyscanner or at worst actually phoning a travel agent makes far more sense than turning up and hoping.
