At long last, RTE apologize to Séan Gallagher and pay compensation.

Given the farce of a television Presidential debate in 2011 (which was the last before the media blackout) is Michael D Higgins really a legitimate President? He had been trailing Sean Gallagher in the polls prior to the debate which is now legally recognized as having been prejudiced. Not sure about anyone else but as far as I am concerned, Sean Gallagher is the real President of Ireland.

Michael D Higgins has visited several communist regimes in south and central America whereas Sean Gallagher would have led trade missions to countries like China and other serious countries on the world stage. The Irish electorate were gulled into voting for Michael D Higgins by a biased television debate and now our stupidity is about to come back to haunt us. Ireland`s economy will not withstand another major economic collapse akin to the crash of 2008. The next crash will be worse and it is nigh in my opinion.

A good President would have been desirable these past few years. Am I not correct?

I hate Higgins's communist sympathies as much as the next person but it's not the President's job to go on trade missions, negotiating deals etc.

Presidents visit other countries as the guest of other governments.

Support for Gallagher was "soft" support anyway, I doubt he would have won it on the day.

No, he was spokes person for a charity for people with disabilities. Second he was out of the running he pulled his support, he can burn for all I care.

No, he is not a real president.

He got paid 130k. That's the end of it.

Prior to the debate, he was leading in the Polls by nearly 20%

    So was Hillary Rothman Clinton.

They say the compensation was substantial but was not aware they published the amount. Please quote reference for this.

There's a serious amount of presumptions there, what makes you think Gallagher would've gotten us all this 'investment' you think is out there?

Whether or not the tweet should've been mentioned, if he didn't flip flop and choke like a fish lying on the deck of a boat he still would've won it, hardly the first politician to be thrown a curve ball in a live debate, except, he's no politician, actually, he's not much of... anything really?

Not quite, a source I found (something you failed to provide) shows in two polls he was 14 and 12 % ahead

    https://www.rte.ie/news/2011/1022/307786-president/

Anyway I still believe it was "soft" support.

    So was Hillary Rothman Clinton.

But she had the media backing her to the hilt, she did not have to contend with an RTE lynch mob.

I find it pretty hilarious that you think an economic crash is going to come from our choice of president.

Given the farce of a television Presidential debate in 2011 (which was the last before the media blackout) is Michael D Higgins really a legitimate President? Sean Gallagher is the real President of Ireland.

And Jack Lynch is the real Taoiseach according to Cork people. Where do I sign up to take part in an assault on the Árus?

Michael D Higgins has visited several communist regimes in south and central America whereas Sean Gallagher would have led trade missions to countries like China and other serious countries on the world stage.

What's the name of that party that rules in China?

Ireland`s economy will not withstand another major economic collapse akin to the crash of 2008. The next crash will be worse and it is nigh in my opinion.

We'll all be ruined, says Hanrahan, before the year is out.

A good President would have been desirable these past few years. Am I not correct?

Bring back Seán T. O'Kelly. And tidy up Bongo Ryan's nook.

She only had the Fake News media backing her.

Just like Trump. Anyone who isn't a politician is automatically better than a politician at politics.

Not if they're incapable of refuting a simple claim made against them.

And still does, why do they do daily attacks on the elected president of USA, makes them look amateur.

Well, if it takes him 7 years to point out he's right I can't see him making much progress on a 1 week trade mission.

OK. I got the sum from the link. I didn't make it up. That it was not disclosed I discovered at the and of the linked piece.

    The matter is settled regardless.

Maybe they paid 2 millions, but don't want the public to know. Who knows...

I can, as long as RTE don`t follow him with suspect tweets. They need all that licence money to pay Pat Kenny anyway.

Over 1 million people who voted, voted for Higgins compared to the 700k or so who voted for Gallagher.

I seriously fail to believe that 300k people watched the front line and that the percentage that did were so influenced by it that Higgins gained over 300k(circa) votes from it
