Just wondering has anybody got an upstairs utility room ? We're hoping to start building a 1227ft bungalow in March and we'll have a decent size attic. Was thinking of maybe using the utility space downstairs to make our kitchen more open plan

I guess you are talking about a laundry room which would be possible upstairs.

    Dormer bungalow?
    Bungalow with loft conversion.

Very much a possible set up.

I am doing more and more houses with first floor laundry rooms....makes a lot of sense when you think it through logically. A good idea to sound insulate the floor and walls/partitions all round the laundry room.

And build a platform of some sort to place the washing machine/dryer into / onto.
Milked a water tank tray that will catch baby leak in the future.

    Great idea if done properly.

Can never understand bringing all your clothes, bed sheets etc downstairs to wash and iron them then carry them back upstairs again.

If I ever build from scratch I will incorporate one large "laundry" room upstairs with all the hotpress pipes/tank etc in that one area.

It depends on whether you use a clothes line or not. Carrying wet clothes down stairs is heavier than carrying dry clothes upstairs. But if you don't ever use an outdoor clothes line it shouldn't be an issue where you locate the laundry room.
