Number terminated by accident???

    Folks,

Up until yesterday, I was on a 30-day SIM only plan bundled with my home phone and broadband package.  I contacted Eir yesterday to have the service unbundled, and due to what I can only assume was a clerical error, my mobile phone service was cut and the number terminated.  After spending an hour on the phone to customer service and the loyalty team, I was advised that I could have the number reactivated if I went to an Eir shop and got a new SIM card.  In the store, I was told that I was fobbed off on the phone and that the number is gone forever.  I've had my number for 15-years so to think that some incompetent customer service rep can just terminate it without any consequences is disgraceful.  Obviously, my mobile contract is now broken.  If I had broken the contract, I'm sure there would have been repercussions, but no one bats an eyelid in Eir; just a limp apology for the inconvenience.

Since I'm getting two different stories, can you tell me if the number is gone and lost forever, or is there a chance of getting it back?
