    Hi All,

I was wondering could someone advise me my mother lives on her own and got the free to air stations in a few years ago. Up until a few months ago everything was fine than all the channels just got mixed up for instance RTE 1 is now no:325 when previously it was no:1

But my mam can't get her head around this as she is just use to the standard channels 1 -14 RTE1,2 TV3, UTV BBC etc I tried to tell her to get Sky in but she doesn't want any bills..I rang saorview and they said its not a saorview approved box! Revez is the name on the box. I dont know who she got to install it but it was about €250/300 at the time.. When I rang saorview they told me that I get get a saorview approved box in powercity for about €80 and everything be fine.

So can anyone recommend a good saorview box and is it a case of just plugging out the old one and plugging in the new one? She doesn't have the internet or anything and Im useless at these things so any help would be greatly appreciated. I just dont want her to be struck over the christmas and miss out on all the great films :D

your best bet this close to Christmas would be to phone some local installer and get him to re tune the revez box and maybe in the future you or your mother might consider ditching the box and get a saorview/satellite television eg Walker/Nordmende TV that has all the channels on the same screen and only 1 remote for her to use. :)

Setting up a saorview box, from scratch, is easy.
Or maybe as pp has suggested, buy her a saorview tv.

You could also ask in the likes of Powercity for advice, or for recommendations of a local installer.

    Sensible woman!
Very bad advice considering her channel use.

Then the best you can do for her is to find a local installer who will set up her existing STB for her.
Unless the box is faulty, which seems unlikely, there is no better solution I can think of.

I dont get you on a Saorview tv! As far as I know when I bought her the TV it had saorview ready on it and I think not sure it was a smart tv as well.

I rang saorview and they told me its not a saorview recognised box to go to the likes of powercity and get a recognised saorview box and this will solve the problem.

But I think there's a few boxes on the market just wondering whats a good one? You wouldnt have no chance of getting a installer out this side of Christmas. I done a auto retune myself a couple of times and the channels are just coming back the same so the problem is still there.

A4 sheet of paper with the Channel and Channel number clearly written beside each other.

I have to do this for my mother every time Sky decide to move Channels around.

If you can give an approximate location, a nice boardsie might nip in and tune it in, in the spirit of Christmas and all that malarkey. ☺

My mother's Sony t.v. is 7.5 yrs old and has the Irish tuner for the Irish channels built in. If your ma's tv is that age or newer than that and was bought in ROI then you shouldn't need the saorview box.

If thats the case why get a box and get the free to air channels and pay €250+ Taught you had to get a box for these channels

You don't need a box on Irish channels with a tv that Less than 7 year old. If you live close to the east coast you can pick up bbcs and itvs etc with an outdoor aerial pointing to UK. As I said my ma's tv has Irish tuner and has a UK tuner for digital tv.

Some of the advice above is just terrible. You dont need to buy anything new!

OP What you need to do is sit down with the existing box and read the instructions about creating a favourite group and ordering channels

Return the box to default settings. Its in the menu.

Then scan the Satellite and Terrestrial channels.

Finally you need to create a favourites list and add the channels in the order that your mother watches them. Ie RTE1, RTE2, TV3, Tg4 BBC1, BBC2 ITv etc
This is all done with the remote control.

There is nothing wrong with the box you have (I am presuming its a Revez Q12 Combo)

If you have lost the manual, I can get you a pdf to read.

    Hi STB

Its a Revez HDTS900 box if that helps all the channels changed a few months ago seemly by themselves I rang saorview and they said its not a recognized box etc To get a new one in the likes of powercity for €80

I was messing around with it this morning and lost all the channels you have auto scan in terrestrial and a satellite scan but you have to select a band example ASTRA 1A,1B or different ASTRA's I think I clicked on the wrong one hence how I lost channels.. Messed around with it again on my lunch and got channels back but only got the Irish ones so none of the bbc's utv etc.. couldnt get rte1 earlier! Yet one of the stations is a saorview information station so dont know how the said its not a saorview recognised box..

Im afraid the manual is long gone!

Is it similar to the one on this page?
There's a pdf manual link on that page under "Downloads"

What's the TV model number? You might be able to get the Irish channels (RTE1&2, TV3, 3e, be3, TG4) on that as a workaround in case you can't get the box sorted. You would need to connect the aerial lead directly into the TV for this to work or else loop from the box "Ant Out" to the TV "Ant In" with another lead.

Cheers Ten its a samsung dont know the model off hand but ive downloaded that manual and sent them a email so hopefully I fix it, be absolutely chuffed if I don't have to get her a new box.

going though the manual it doesnt say much about tuning other that manual and auto scan nothing about frequency. does say how to restore back to factory default that might be worth doing.

Op as i said in my previous reply to you might be better off finding a local installer to re tune that box and edit the channel list to suit your mothers needs, revez have a couple of combi boxes on the market and some of them are a nuisance to tune in, Now going forward and for the future i suggest that you or your mother buys a Saorview/Satellite TV "Nordmende and Walker models" that way the cables connect to the TV directly and there will be no need for any box or for your mother to use 2 remotes.

Not disagreeing with you but trying to get her sorted for over the christmas period not a chance of getting a installer before then her TV is a samsung and fairly new model as in only a few years old..

i understand that even though her Samsung TV is a few years old it probably only has a saorview tuner thats why this revez combi box is been used to get her the Irish channels and UK channels all together on the 1 screen and that is why i suggested that for the future it might be better if she had a combined Saorview and Satellite TV and get rid of that box and the 2nd remote control. now most of the installers including myself would have channel lists belonging to boxes saved on USB keys and it would only take a few mins to setup that box thats why i suggested you try a local installer. If you want to then drop me a PM with your email address and i can send you a channel list but the only thing is that the Irish channels on my list for that box are from Mt Leinster which might not suit you. Its worth a try to see can you get a local installer to pop in and re tune it. :)

Thanks Navarre she only uses the 1 remote as soon as you turn on the tv its automatically on the box so you only need to use the box remote if you get me.

You advised her to set up an ongoing payment for free channels?

How dependent is she on the British channels? If that tv is new enough which it reads like it is, then you could try plugging the terrestrial cable into the back of the TV and doing a regular TV setup. It will set up the Irish channels just as she expects.

If she wants to have her British channels then you'll need to get someone to sort out the Revez box. A local installer will get it done in no time for you.

yea it is.. Im really sorry if I come across as a pain not great with these things! if it is just a matter of buying a different box as saorview said Ive no problem doing that, but people are saying it just needs retuning which Ive been trying to do the last few weeks! but when I do auto scan the stations are just coming back the same every time.

As mentioned I wouldnt get an installer this side of christmas. Surely it isnt that hard to retune or have they some special tool that you plug into the box!

    Jaysus lads...stop the bickering.

Will somebody call in and sort it out for her? It's not rocket science to set up channels and do a favourites listing.

If she's anywhere near me, I'd certainly be happy to.

Whereabouts, roughly, does this poor woman live?

Very bad advice from the saorview helpline telling the clueless op to buy an new (approved) box

Any box will need setup, some are easier than others, an approved Saorview box will set the channels up but wont get Uk channels. As was said earlier, what area are you in, I am in Bray if I could be any help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,676 ✭✭✭swoofer

The problem is its a combo box so needs scanning of the saorview digital terrestailand then scanning of the correct satellite ie astra at 28east. Its easy when you know but if it lost the channels there may have been a powercut and box needs a full reset ie a new install. And cables need checking. STB can get a manual or thread heading could be changed ie how to tune a Revez HDTS900. That box is not cheap, 220 euros on adverts. I cant find a manual.

Can you not just move the channels to your desired number? Op if you in Midlands, tullamore portarlington etc I can call over tomo evening or sat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,174 ✭✭✭benny79

Cheers lads very thoughtful of you. She lives in Drimnagh. Im based in Kildare but work in Dublin so call in regular to check on her hence the scatter scans im doing.

But listen I dont expect anyone to call I have no problem sorting it myself if I find out how.

I done the terrestrial scan yesterday and got the rte's tv 3, back about 6 stations actually taught there be more. done the satellite scan this morning on Astra 2E, 2F and 2G @ 28.2E and it wont bring up any channels

Got sorted lads someone told me to bring it to satworld turns out there only up the road from my mothers.. Tuned it in was on a wrong setting and showed me how to move stations.. Huge weight lifted..

Happy Christmas and thanks for all the help!

Might be an idea to get the manual off Revez anyway. They might email it to you.

Its not on their website as they only seem to have their latest boxes.
