My current monitor setup is a bit of a cobbled together mess that consists of an Acer GD245HQ (23.6") and an Acer S220HQL (21.5")
I spend the majority of my time gaming on the GD245HQ and using the S220HQL to stream youtube/tv shows/movies.
I know little to nothing about what monitors to look for or what prices are reasonable
I do know that i want to go for a monitor size of 22-24"
My graphics card is an Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080
EDIT: Ideally i would be looking for something around €100 each with my max budget would be 200 for each i guess(as i said i dont know much about monitor pricing so that might not get me anything idk)

Nothing in your price range would be an upgrade over the Acer GD245HQ.
Have you been running it at 1920x1080 @ 120Hz?

Yes its running at 1920x1080 but idk if its at 120hz(i assume it is)
the main problem i am finding with the GD245HQ is how big its base stand is

How much would i need to be looking at price wise for a upgrade to the GD245HQ?
I just want to make sure i am utilizing my graphics card to its fullest

Depends on what you're looking for.

    €220-280 gets you either 1080p/144Hz, or 1440p/75Hz
    €330+ gets you 1080p/240Hz, or 1440p/144Hz
    €300+ also gets you a 4k/60Hz panel.

But the GTX 1080 is suited to 1080p/120Hz gaming at High/Ultra settings anyway.
    ==============
AFAIK, if you have connected with HDMI then it is not possible for the monitor to run at 120Hz; it requires a dual-link DVI-D cable for that refresh rate.

If it's just the stand bothering you, get a VESA monitor arm.

Yes i am currently using a HDMI on the GD245HQ,
So i would be better off just getting a dual-link DVI-D cable?

What monitor would i be looking at then to replace my S220HQL with one that is more on level with the GD245HQ?

If you have a gtx 1080 then surely you would want to be looking at 1080p min with 144hz to 165hz with g sync

Even 1440p with a gtx 1080 is the way to go but costs more

Hdmi gives max 60hz, you need displayport to take advantage of higher refresh rates

    DVI-D can do 1080p @ 120Hz as well, OP's GD245HQ doesn't have DisplayPort.

    G-Sync... eh. It's a massive price premium.

Yes the GTX1080 can be used for 1440p gaming, but it might struggle with that resolution at high frame rates (144/165Hz).

So should i get monitors with DisplayPorts?

    DisplayPort for anything new.
But for your current monitor, you'd be grand getting a simple DVI-D cable & upping refresh rate to 120Hz.

right so just get another GD245HQ and get dvi-d cables for both or is there something else you would suggest for replacing the second monitor?

Ah, didn't realise you want to replace the S220HQL!

In that case, get a 24"+ with higher resolution for watching video.
    1920x1200, 2560x1440 or 2560x1080 (ultrawide).
IPS panel preferred here for image quality, would still recommend a 75Hz+ screen.

Why not just get 1 good new monitor instead of 2 more cheap ones and just use one of the old ones as your secondary for now?

You have a good card for 1440p/144Hz. That's what I'd be going for. 27" at that with G-sync. It won't be cheap but it will be worth it.

I agree. I have a 144Hz 1440p IPS Freesync monitor and adaptive sync(G-sync in your case) is totally worth it.

Oh yea. Haha! But tbh they are worth the money though. But saying that I think the g-sync ones are closer to €700+

There was a good deal on this a month ago. It was £435, around €490. Price has climbed a bit since then though.

A mate of mine got 1 and loves it.

    -edit-

It was actually this 1. Damn Acer with their lack of clear branding between models.

Sure but if he's looking for an actual upgrade that's the cost of it. Otherwise stick with what he has. He has a 120hz 1080p panel already. The only logical upgrade is 1440p/144Hz with G-sync. Also if he can afford a 1080 he can afford a €500 monitor.

    I agree. I personally think a GTX 1080 is wasted on a 120Hz 1080p monitor.
