Hi all. Heading to Thailand (Bangkok, Phuket & Koh Samui) on the 26th.

Looking for advice on Currency. My current thinking is to take €200-300 in cash with me, changed here and load up my Revolut Mastercard with the rest of the spending money, withdrawing as needed. Any issues / better suggestions?

Also looking to get a prepaid sim card to pop into my phone for data (Google maps etc.). Phone is a OnePlus 3 with dual SIM and as fsr as I know it will work there. Any suggestions here?

    Thanks!

Found this, looks good on the data front: http://www.dtac.co.th/en/prepaid/products/tourist-sim.html

When you land at the airport go to a dtac/ AIS/ True stand and they will show what you have.

I just bought a 30 day 20gb 4g with unlimited local calls (handy for calling your travel buddy or travel agents etc) for 1200 baht... lasts 30 days. There are cheaper so you can buy whatever suits you.

Seriously easy so don't even worry about it until you land..they set it up for you so you can test before you leave the stand

I would bring more currency with you in person if you feel comfortable. Keep it locked in your bag and stored at you accommodation.

I was in South East Asia recently and used Revolut. It only allows you withdraw €200 a month before you have to pay a 2% fee and there are very few places that accept card as direct payment.

The fees the ATM charge you coupled with the Revolut fee won't be long adding up.

Cool, thanks. Another option suggested by a colleague is to top up a credit card and withdraw as I needed it.

    I use my BOI MasterCard.

I ensure it's preloaded before withdrawing. Thai ATM charge 220 baht withdrawal fee with a max of 20000 baht per withdrawal.

So it costs us about 5.5eur per transaction but no cross border fees so suits us fine. This 220 baht fee is on the Thai side so no avoiding it if you're using a non Thai card
