cheers folks. My ds asking "Santa" for one. With all the dicking around, still not sorted. Need to get it done today :pac: or tomorrow. Argos seem to have a lot of options but I'm pretty clueless.

Budget of €400. He doesn't need MS Office or anything like that. Browsing, Youtube and Netflix. Some games but not heavy duty gaming. He has a PS4....cheers good people!!!

this one seems to be the best deal at the moment in bricks and mortar shop (pc world)

proper core i3 processor (will mean that it will run better/faster than most in that price range which would have slower celeron processors. will run games like minecraft fine which would be the sort of game for that age range)
full hd (1080p) screen (good for the price range as most still have 720p screens)
large Hard drive for storing movies etc. (doesn't have faster ssd type but you can't have everything at this money)

    http://www.pcworld.ie/Product/lenovo-ideapad-310-156-laptop-silver/335925/396.0.0

comfortably under your budget at 360 euro

doesn't seem to be anything in Argos to come near to matching the value

seems to be out of stock now. did you get one?
otherwise you could try to ring pcworld and see if they have a display model left maybe.

Lenovo do a few good ones for in or around that price range.

You can also get some really good tablet computers for that price range, if your son would be okay with one of those? They are also arguably easier to protect with casings , etc. than a laptop would be.

I got a Lenovo Yogabook ( 2-in-1 laptop/ tablet) last year for about 450, but unfortunately the price seems to have risen on that, as they are only offering the ones with more storage now. If you can find one with slightly less storage (perhaps 32 GB) that should come closer to budget, as that is what mine was. You would also have the option of using either Microsoft or Android (with Android still being able to use Word, etc.), and the Android was also the cheaper option when I bought mine, and it is again what I went with.

Consider a Chromebook instead of a PC I got one (toshiba 16gb) 3 years ago for my 12 yo Son and its still as good as new.. ideal for browsing netflix and YouTube spotify ...

Does a 10 year old really need a lap top or is it just me?

Personally Quietfellla, I think a tablet would be better. He has always wanted a laptop and in fairness my son never asks for much for Xmas.!! Tried to talk him out of it, believe me!
