I see this has lost its sponsor, previously Virgin, and before that Samsung.
Expensive at €30 + €1.5, but a rare chance to run through the city centre

That's the early bird price, for anyone willing to pony up before they even have a permit.

I remember this one, tight corners with hundreds around you, bollards you can't actually see and watching a few hitting the ground on the cobble stones.

I can think of better ways to see the city at night.

Between paying to stop the traffic and insurance I'd say this is a Sponsors nightmare.

I also remember how awkward it was to collect the race number in Trinity College.

They changed the route last year to bring you down what they called “the wide open spaces” of o’Connell street, which turned out to be no bigger than a cycle track with the buses and cars flying past you within inches.

Would it be foolish to register for this one before the license? No sponsor is a bit off putting too.

I'd send an email if you're keen to whoever you got the notice of the race from and ask them why they've opened the race without a sponsor and ask them what it means. Does it mean you may not get your free t-shirt or medal after paying the fee or does it mean roads mightn't be closed off.

Also ask if you can get a refund if it doesn't go ahead.

Or just wait and see what happens closer the time.

In my opinion, yes, it would be foolish. They may not get the license for the date announced. Or they may get a license with a different route. Or they may not get a license at all (unlikely as that probably is).

Announcing early for the Xmas market is opportunism of the highest order. Support established club races instead.

There's also no route up that I could see, with the luas now running along O'Connell Street I can't see them keeping the same route.
Regarding the sponsor, I imagine with the whole issue around Focus Ireland last year, it was a lot harder to get on to put up money (or not).
I didn't run it last year but there was also a problem with people not starting in the right positions and slowly fast runners behind them down (I'm not knocking anyone for being ambitious but when you spot a guy ten feet ahead of you in a pair of con's and deck shorts with a bottle of BPM sticking out of the pocket, you do start to question attempting a PB).
Overall it could do with serious improvements.
