    Hey guys,

Not overly familiar with cars but have a bit of a problem with the car (Peugeot 206 2005) failed the NCT on the two front suspension balls and the ABS light is on. I'm stuck at to whether to repair or replace it. Electrics kinda going weird as well. Any advice?

You would probably buy another one for the price youd pay to fix that one.

But the one you buy may not be any better than the one you already have.

I'd get a quote for repairs, if you have no other desire or neccessity to change then if you can get another 12 months out of the car for a couple of hundred euro then that'd be a result IMO.

Any "cheap-ish" car you buy could be in as bad a condition.

If you have a decent budget and fancy a new/ nearly new car then that's a different story I suppose.

Ball joints are a wear and tear item and need replacing every few years, the ABS could be one of the ABS sensors needing replacing, again this happens on occasion. Nothing in that to suggest the car is in any way bad.
Dunno how you'd replace it without a valid NCT, can't see anyone buying it. Just looks like usual consumable items that need replacing, part and parcel of car ownership. As said before get a quote and see what the cost is.

On the 206 you have to replace the whole wishbone, ball joint doesn’t come separate. The ball joints unfortunately are made of chocolate.

As is the case with a lot of cars... but it shouldn’t put the OP off.
    Marty.

Am thinking of maybe getting a loan and investing in a 14-15 car and get my money's worth out of it. Any ideas on a nice secure low litre car. Thinking my best bet is a Toyota Yaris. Don't care about style just a college student trying to save money.

Ask in Buying if you want recommendations. Have a read of the current threads first as there may be something already that catches your eye.

Student + loan for a newish car doesn't make much sense to me when the current car needs just minor repairs. Spend 10k to save 0.5k kind of thing. Then the new car will depreciate 1k a year going forward.

If you need to get a loan, get a 1k overdraft to repair the current car.

Yeah I could part with a couple hundred to fix the car but I feel like if just be waiting for another problem to come up. Don't want to be stuck in a loop of repairs which I've heard fairly common with the Peugeot 206's.
