    Hello,

A question for someone who know's BMWs...

I'm a bit confused by the climate control in the car. It doesn't seem to matter what I set the temperature to with the main controls (big circle) as the little dial under the hazard lights (small circle) seems to override the temperature.

It isn't really a problem, as I know how to get the car up to the temperature that I want, but having the climate control redundant is somewhat annoying.

Am I doing something wrong? Do i need to turn on something to give primacy to the climate control system?

How do you control both sides of the car with one knob? In my car, (kuga) the driver's side controls both sides, but the passenger automatically turns on dual ac.

My wife's e93 seems to have dual control permanently.

So each of the silver dials control the driver / passenger side and adjust the temp on the screen.

However, the single dial under the hazard switch seems to override this, at least from the dashmounted vents. The dial sets the temp for all vents.

The centre 2 vents are controlled separately. It's a BMW thing. It means you could have heat coming in at your feat and cooler air from the centre vents. Provided everything works your other vents should not be affected by the positioning of the temperature slider in the centre (beside the hazards.)

The dial below the centre vent is a BMW thing and just gives quicker temperature control where it overrides the climate control settings. I find it a handy feature but some people don't.

As for controlling both climate control zones, unfortunately unless you opt for the advanced climate control system from the factory there is no temperature sync on the dual climate control system and you have to adjust the temperature on both zones individually via the dials. The 5 Series only got climate zone temperature sync control as standard with the current model so it's rare enough to find it on a 3 Series.

    Thanks guys.

I'm fine with the split control - it doesn't really make a difference.

I was just confused why the 'vent dial' seemed to override the settings, but what you say makes sense.
