I recently bought a boxset in Golden Discs (fawlty towers - €15) I attempted to return it unopened due to change of gift idea for someone and the staff told me I couldn't get my money back that I was only entitled to store credit - how is this so - the package was unopened and was not on sale?:)

My understanding is your consumer rights should entitle you to a full refund, as long as you have the receipt and the item is unopened and within 28 days of purchase.

If it is not faulty then they don't have to accept it back, giving you store credit is just good will.

Purchasing in a store you have no rights to return in the case of change of mind. Anything they offer is goodwill although many stores will accept returns.

As far as I am aware you are entitled to full refund online. You have less rights in brick and mortar shops, they have the right to refuse you if the item isn't faulty. It's to the discretion of store if they offer exchange, credit or anything at all.

Thanks everyone, I guess it varies from shop to shop, I probably should have double checked returns policy when purchasing
