Trading in - to repair/replace or not

Going to be trading in my car in the new year and starting to look about. Know the market for selling second-hands isn't great but not in any major rush so can look around.

However, the timing belt is due for replacement so do I get it done now or wait till the trade in and let the dealer know. I wouldn't pretend it was done or try to pull the wool over anyone's eyes but is it better to get it done ourselves or let the dealer do it and take any hit on the trade in price.

Also, some total git has done some minor damage to the bonnet and disappeared without leaving a note (shock!). Looks like a truck or high sided vehicle backed into it leaving the bonnet dented and a small crack in the paint work. Again, similar question - do I take the hit and fix it now or let the garage sort it out.

Don’t spend anything on the trade in as you won’t increase the value by doing it. Just say nothing.
