Who are Pitney Bowes Ltd and why am i being charged nearly 8 quid a month for their services?

I just notice it in my paypal account

From my experience ebay use pitney bowes to clear parcels from the US to Ireland, might this explain the charges?

Is this actually a monthly charge at the same time each month or does the charge occur at the same time as you buy something from ebay. Pitney Bowes run ebays "evil" global shipping program and its easy to buy something from ebay without realising the seller is using the global shipping program.

It works like this the seller ships to Pitney Bowes then Pitney Bowes sends the parcel on to you. It makes it safer and cheaper for the seller but has less protection is more expensive and is slower for the buyer. The 8 quid is what PB charge the buyer for the service.

I believe its a shipping company ebay use. I've seen it before when i've purchased off ebay

When you pay for something Ebay(UK or US IF the seller chooses to use GSP) Paypal SPLIT your payment between the seller and Pitney Bowes for the Global Shipping Programme.

Why you are being charge a precise 8 per month though is a mystery. Very elusive company to deal with normally. If it's by Card you can block their originator reference, if by DD you can do the same but easier and quicker. If by Paypal you can cancel the recurring payment and put in a claim for refunds if you feel the payments aren't approved.

They're not import charges.

With the global shipping programme you pay the seller for the item and Pitney Bowes for the delivery.

And delivery takes an extra couple of days too.

You usually get an email when you buy on eBay that tells you that it will appear as two payments.

I dealt with them in an earlier life on renting a franking machine...... gangsters on invoicing ''interest on late payment'. And while you query same with some dumbass in An Indian call call centre after having paid the original outstanding invoice - they would continue to chase the outstanding interest. They EVEN charged interest on the outstanding interest....

....schissters is the word I would use fir them.

Almost there

What normally happens is you pay the seller to send to Pitney Bowes as part of the sale price to the seller then you pay Pitney Bowes to send the item on to you.

Yes but to give an example here is a recent ebay purchase of mine

Subtotal: £1.49

Postage & packaging: £13.80

Import charges: £0.00

Total: £15.29

Which shows up in PayPal as

*******************PayPal ******************

DEC 08 2017 Pitney Bowes Limited
Payment- 8.05 GBP

DEC 08 2017 eBay - AnotherSeller
Purchase - 7.24 GBP

with the same £15.29 total.

I paid £1.49 for the item and the rest is postage the seller charged £5.75 postage to Pitney Bowes depot and Pitney Bowes charged £8.05 to deliver the item to Ireland.

Edit> Which was a good deal as it happens as the same item was anywhere between £25 to £40 plus P&P

You live and learn. You'll know to check all terms before clicking through all the pages OR use Parcel Motel/Wizard or Address pal for cheaper shipping. Sounds like you were fleeced for shipping by both the seller AND Pitney Bowes.

Wasn't that bothered as it was way cheaper even with P&P than the next cheapest without. I only bid £1.50 if anyone wanted to bid more than that then it was theirs. iirc the next option a BiN was £25 and €15 P&P and was untested and missing parts (which I had but thats not the point).

Global shipping is a rip off but its a very easy option for sellers. Many sellers choose it as it saves them a load of time and hassle, no need for a start to know the cost of shipping an item to Ireland or any other outside country as all you need to know is the one price for shipping within the UK.
