My suggestion is a large tv screen that he can't break because 3 yr olds don't need tablets....end of story.

A good reason to get him something more suited to a 3 year old so, perhaps?A three year old should get very little screen time, so if he has time to throw it about so often, it would seem he has far too much time as is. If you really want to persist with screens, something like this is as far as I would go:

its worth investing in a really good cover for whatever you get - something like an otter box.

Really surprised at the judgement here. My 3 yr has autism and uses his tablet for learning and communication. It is absolutely essential in his daily educational routine as well as a calming tool to combat some challenging behaviour.

I don't feel I need to explain my choices as a parent to people who know nothing about my child but there, I have. If I needed parenting advice I would've posted in the parenting bit.

The Otterbox is a great suggestion. Thanks for taking the time.

If you check Amazon they have a great selection, lots of durable ones that are shaped like steering wheels or have nice chunky handles for ease of grasp. I'd also recommend getting a gorilla glass screen protector.

Critical, to be fair, you didn't make any of that public until now. People can only take posts at face value . Screen time doesn't generally calm, by the way, it subdues children , which isn't quite the same and in many cases overstimulates children who have SPD.

If you post here and don't want answers you don't like, you misunderstand how Boards is supposed to work.

made for bouncing on the floor and cheap enough to replace if he does manage to break it,stick a good screen protector on it!

A colouring book with crayons and a few books that you should sit and read with them should be perfect!

Yes, critical, situations such as yours do need to be explained on a forum like this one. It is anonymous. We are all too well aware of children having tablets bought for them when they are too young to handle them or respect them, hence the comments. Your child is in a different situation and posters will respect that too now that you have disclosed that important information.

If you want a tablet you won't beat a Kindl le fire for kids.

I also have a child with autism (hence the Otter Box suggestion !!)

There are lots of great Apps you can get for a tablet (PECS alternatives, social stories etc.) You may also be able to reclaim VAT on the purchase and should check that out.

That's a bit harsh. My kids got the Amazon fire tablet , thousands of books available for free on it, plenty of colouring activities and other learning aids. You should get off your high horse and try to embrace technology, you'll fund that tablets are great aids and the kids fire has a two year warranty which includes any damage regardless of how it happened

Eh... I do embrace technology but we're talking about a 3yr old here in this case. A 3yr old needs to work on their fine motor skills...crayon grip, pencil grip, using scissors, paintbrushes etc and not spend their time sliding their index finger across a screen. Ask any infant teacher about this issue and they will tell you how difficult it is these days to get children ready for writing activities because they are spending too much time on screens.
